287-4240  Marine chronometer: probably the earliest surviving chronometer from Wempe Chronometerwerke Hamburg No. 585

Mahogany box 18 x 18 x 18 cm, gimbal suspension, brass case with number 585, spring detent chronometer with helical hairspring, original dial bearing the same number with a distinctive retrograde power reserve indicator featuring a gold hand, hour and minute hands also in gold, movement intact, cleaning recommended. According to our research, this is one of the earliest surviving Wempe chronometers, tested in 1913/1914 by the German Naval Observatory in Hamburg.
