Ø18mm, ca. 15.5g, 18K gold, the entire case decorated in a special granulation technique, middle part set with rose cut diamonds, patent case with winding mechanism and time setting by turning the case halves, ultra-fine miniature lever movement with moustache lever, similar constructed to the well-known signed Patek Philippe ball watch movements (see Huber & Banbery page 75), plate numbered 18474 on both sides, case 14474, typical enamel dial with red 12, tip of the later hour hand is missing, overall in very beautiful condition, movement needs cleaning, 2 of the small case screws are missing. The watch is a rarity and possibly an unsigned early Patek Philippe. The watch shown in Huber & Banbery page 75 is identical in construction and also bears a low 5-digit number, namely 16010 and is additionally punched with Patek Philippe and the number 157415. A ball watch with an almost identical case down to the last detail, signed Patek Philippe, was offered by Dr. Crott in the 94th auction in 2016 as lot 381 (https://www.cortrie.de/go/NK8).

Pendant watch/ brooch watch: rarity, "Boule de Genève", very rare quality, gold/ platinum/ enamel with diamonds, smallest size known to us, ca. 1890
Ca. Ø16 mm, 18K gold and platinum, No. 4945, blue engine turned enamel, surrounded with diamonds, winding and hand setting by turning the upper half of the case, fine miniature movement with lever escapement, enamel dial, in excellent condition, blue numerals and red "12", gold hands, corresponding gold brooch with sapphires, in working order, in nearly perfect condition, only the glass is missing. These very fine watches were made in the time of 1865-1920, mainly by Geneva manufacturers, the most famous by Patek Philippe. The enormous publicity for this lovely "Boules de Genève" led to a storm of orders from Royalty from all over the world. Patek Philippe delivered i.a. pieces to Prince Hussein Kamil of Egypt (1887) and Empress Teresa of Brazil (1888); both pieces are illustrated in the catalouge of the "Timepieces of Royalty" exhibition, which took place at the Patek Philippe Museum in autumn 2005. Today, the permanent exhibition of the museum has a small number of later Boules de Genève models in various designs.

The watch is in working order and in excellent condition, completely original and unrestored. It is an absolute rarity. The similarity to the Patek Philippe watches 84141 (shown in Huber & Banbery "Patek Philippe" page. 126, pic. 52C) and 76344 (https://www.cortrie.de/go/6vr) sold in one of our past auctions for 18,500€ is obvious. The unusual construction of the cases, the dials and the painting is very similar to all 3 watches. All watches have numbers close together. All movements have silver movement holders and can be completely removed from the case and are not hinged. It can be strongly assumed, that the same case maker made the two special Patek Philippe watches and the Koehn watch shown here. The fact that Eduard Koehn was director at Patek Philippe at the time of the production of these 3 watches also speaks for this. Eduard Koehn (1839-1908) went from a simple watchmaker to director at Patek Philippe. He was born in Germany and studied at the watchmaking school in Geneva. He started as a simple watchmaker with Patek Philippe and later became a partner. In 1891 Eduard Koehn bought the company H.R. Ekegren. The quality awareness he got during his many years at Patek Philippe was later reflected in his own products, which he designed and manufactured.

Pocket watch: important and extremely rare gold automaton pocket watch "The Wandering Theatre", BOUVIER FRÈRES "La Chasse Carousel" No.6218, Geneva ca. 1810
"Ca. Ø55mm, ca. 90g, 18K pink gold, original case with serial number 6218, case maker's mark P. C4, signed gilt verge movement, signed excellently preserved original enamel dial, in the upper part the aperture/ stage, background with a painted landscape, in the foreground a house and in front of it a path on which various figures are passing by the aperture while the watch is running, pink gold hands, probably original key, in excellent working order, including automaton and figures. Bouvier was the manufacturer of this extremely rare automaton. According to our research, only about 10 of these automatons have appeared at auctions so far. 4 of them are now in the collection of the Patek Philippe Museum, namely the numbers No. 6389, 7066, 6129 and 6589. Interesting is the present version with the automaton on the dial. This seems to be the only known piece so far. All other Bouvier wandering automatons have the automaton on the back. Since the dial is also signed, it is obvious, that this watch is not a rebuild, but absolutely original. An additionally enamelled piece was in the Dr. Crott auction No. 96 as lot 75, estimated price 40,000€ to 60,000€ (source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/vj9). A very similar automaton, also made in the plain gold version, but signed Chevalier & Cochet was auctioned in Geneva and sold for 23,000 Swiss Francs in 2010 (https://www.cortrie.de/go/Grq). Since the technology of the automaton is identical and Chevalier & Cochet like Bouvier worked in Geneva at the same time, it is assumed that the automaton was made by the same manufacturer, only with different seller signatures.

Geneve No. 47756, case No. 47756, exquisite chronometer movement, rare quality, helical hairspring, with golden wheels, wolf's toothing, large chronometer balance with gold screws, moustache lever, signed enamel dial, fine steel hands, in very good condition, in working order, rarity. Patek Philippe produced only a few pocket watch chronometer with this deck calibre, a few with lever escapement and a few with spring detent escapement. This special edition with golden wheels and helical hairspring was probably made for the English market. This watch is an exceptional quality and a particularly heavy and large example for an open face pocket watch. Patek Philippe sold some very fine repeater watches and chronographs through his retailer M. Scooler in New Orleans. Pocket watch: absolute rarity, 1 of only 6 known Patek Philippe split-seconds chronographs with regulator dial and chronometer quality "Special", in nearly like new condition, No.48481, Geneva 1881, with copy of the extract from the archives

Ø52.5mm, ca. 142g, 18K pink gold, extremely rare special case with 3 hinged lids like a hunting case watch, but with view to the dial, case and movement numbered 48481, dome with 2 gift engravings John Tucker 1883 and Russel Tucker 1888, Ankerchronometer of quality "Special" with Geneva striping and extremely rare split-seconds chronograph including a regulator dial, original enamel dial with red minutes and 1/5-seconds register, blued steel hands, dial also numbered 48481, in nearly like-new and excellent condition. This is a real Patek Philippe rarity! According to our knowledge only 5 more of these Patek Philippe split-seconds chronographs in exactly this technical design are known and 2 more in a slightly modified construction. All these 8 watches were made for the American market, at least 2 of them for Tiffany and 2 for Bailey, Banks & Biddle (like the one here), 5 of the watches as open face watches, 3 with hunting watch cases. Only 3 of the watches, namely the present watch with the number 48481, the 65409 and the 90315 were made in pink gold, the other 5 watches in yellow gold. Only 2 of the watches have the special case with 3 hinged lids, this watch and the 90315, sold in the 183rd auction Dr. Crott as lot 180 for more than 50,000€. Also the 65409, the 3rd pink gold watch in this series was sold for a remarkable price, sold at Antiquorum in Geneva for 50,000 Swiss Francs in 2012 (source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/V66). It is also noteworthy that Patek Philippe used movements in the Ankerchronometer quality "SPECIAL" for these watches. The "Special" and "Extra" quality marking was used exclusively to indicate the highest quality chronometers. According to the extract from the archives the watch was sold in 1881.

Pocket watch: Patek Philippe pocket chronometer with equation of time, perpetual calendar and moon phase, museum piece, No.31090, Geneva ca. 1870, only 7 of these watches were made!

Ø55.5mm, ca. 124g, 18K pink gold, splendour case with high relief, back with finely engraved vines and leaves, integrated enamelled monogram, probably an Arabic character, very fine à-gout version, case and movement with matching number, 31090, signed and numbered dome, delivered to Rodanet, the Patek Philippe distributor in Paris, Rodanet number 9294, exquisite Patek Philippe chronometer movement with extra large chronometer balance, lever escapement, wolf's toothing, extremely rare technical complication: equation of time, perpetual calendar, moon phase, original enamel dial in very good condition, below the "12" the indication of the moon phase and the "true time" (equation of time), pink gold hands for the perpetual calendar, blued steel hands for the time, in excellent condition with probably original wooden box, covered with velvet and silk. This watch is probably one of the rarest Patek Philippe pocket watches offered at auction in the last 20 years. The owner has been informed by Patek Philippe that only 7 of these watches have been made and this watch was number 3 of them. The first of these watches was the number 24920, which also had an equation of time table and a compass on the back. From this watch only archive photographs from 1867 exist (shown in Huber & Banbery, page 203, image 176.). It is quite possible that the watch presented here is the only still existing example of these 7 watches, because according to our research no other of these watches have shown up so far. In total Patek Philippe produced only 11 pocket watches with equation of time until the famous "Henry Graves" in 1933. What is an equation of time? The equation of time shows the difference between the mean solar time and the true solar time. This is variable during the course of a year. It is therefore the difference between the time shown by a sundial and the time shown by a perfectly regulated watch, which would indicate noon at the time the sun passes the meridian. This difference results from the combination of two effects. First, the movement of the earth around the sun, its elliptical orbit (instead of circular). Second, the inclination of its axis of rotation in the orbit. What is a sector-type equation of time, such as the one in this watch? Solar time is permanently indicated by an index or hand on a subsidiary dial, generally graduated in a sector from + 15 to - 15 minutes. To know the solar time, it is therefore necessary to add or remove this time lapse to or from the mean time.
