287-4054 Pocket watch: historically interesting gold hunting case pocket watch, awarded for the rescue of the crew of a Russian military vessel, 1929
Ca. Ø52mm, ca. 95g, 14K gold, all lids in gold, dome and case signed P. Moser, No. 68828, lever-escapement chronometer movement, spring lid with dedication in Cyrillic: "Awarded by the Leningrad Provincial Committee to Wilhelm Gerels for the rescue of the shipwrecked crew of the steamer 'Burevestnik Leningradskaya'", Breguet dial, steel hands, later 14K watch chain, ca. 18g, movement intact, case with dents around the edges, one hinge sleeve defective. Explanation: On 29 August 1929, Captain Wilhelm Gerels rescued the crew of a Russian military vessel that had suffered shipwreck. As a token of gratitude, he was presented with this gold pocket watch by the manufacturer P. Moser. The Leningrad Provincial Committee (Leningrad Provincial Executive Committee of the Soviets of Workers’, Peasants’ and Red Army Deputies) was the highest executive body in the Petrograd Province (from 16 April 1918 – Council of Workers’, Peasants’ and Red Army Deputies).
