292-4115 Pocket watch: A rarity, French navigation pocket watch with compass, ‘Montre Boussole’ chronograph, circa 1900
Ca. Ø69mm, ca. 244g, original nickel case, marked ‘Montre Boussole du Capitaine Vincent No.5101, Brevete’, lever escapement, chronograph with 30-minute counter, gold hands, multicoloured enamel dial with navigation scale and indication of the cardinal points, surmounted by a compass in working order. This type of naval deck watch with a compass and chronograph is extremely rare, particularly in this beautiful, fully in working order condition. The watch is based on an invention by Captain Charles Adolphe Henri Vincent of Reims (France). He designed it as a robust timepiece for seafarers to aid navigation on rough seas.
