292-4149 Wristwatch: historically interesting LeCoultre pilot’s watch, used by German paratroopers at Monte Cassino in 1944
Ca. Ø31mm, metal case, serial number 183679, hand-wound calibre 463, black dial, luminous hands, leather strap, in working order. The watch belonged to a German paratrooper who wore it during operations at Monte Cassino in 1944. The watch has remained in the family’s possession to this day. The battles at Monte Cassino consisted of four separate Allied offensive operations aimed at breaking through the German defensive line known as the ‘Gustav Line’ between 17 January and 18 May 1944. Due to their duration of four months, they are regarded as one of the longest battles of the Second World War, with heavy casualties on both sides.
