Ø59mm, ca. 188g, pierced, richly decorated double case with bell, signed verge movement with early pillars (pre-1700), decorated barrels, silver dial, central alarm disc, single-hand, exceptionally well preserved, movement intact, significant watchmaker, active as a court watchmaker, the earliest known pocket watch to date, circa 1690. This museum-quality verge watch may have been made even before 1690 and is probably the earliest surviving watch by Simon Mair.
