152-4217 Pocket watch: extremely rare Geneva pocket watch with figured automaton "the Dutch kitchen", probably Pierre Simon Gounouilhou Geneva ca.1815
Ca. Ø 59 mm, ca. 127 g, 18 K pink gold, both sides glazed, cylinder escapement, multicolored golden figured automaton on back "the Dutch kitchen" with polychrome enamel background, enamel dial with winding shafts for movement and automaton, Breguet steel hands, movement intact, automaton needs restoration, first-time offered in auction, unrestored condition for decades, enamel with small imperfections, technical revision of automaton needed, with former and old signs of restoration. Only 10 pieces noted today, mostly part of important collections and museums, a.o. Patek Philippe Museum. Another piece is illustrated and described in E. Jaquet and A. Chapuis "Histoire et Technique de La Montre Suisse", from 1945 and in A Chapuis and E. Gelis, "Le Monde des Automates", Paris, 1928. All of the noted 10 pieces have some differences in the background decoration, the figures of the automaton are mostly identical. Some of these watches only have five motions, others, like the present watch, have an automaton with 7 motions.
