Ca. Ø51mm, ca. 63g, 18K gold, no. 9450, typical, super flat Cartier case with French gold punch for 18K gold watch cases, ultra fine and extremely rare calibre with split seconds chronograph and counter, lever escapement, Audemars Piguet calibre, original silvered dial, signed Cartier, original blued Breguet steel hands, in completely original condition, in working order, presumably in original box of the Royal Jeweller Hamilton & Co. in India. Cartier pocket watches with split seconds chronograph are extremely rare. So far only a few examples are known. The number 9457 in platinum version was auctioned in Geneva in 2009 and was sold for 60,000 Swiss Francs (source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/7Or). Another of these watches is illustrated in: "Le Temps de Cartier, Barracca, Negretti & Nencini", 1989 edition, p. 326. The Indian princes' demand for the super elegant Cartier pocket watches was high. In Hans Nadelhoffer "Cartier" it says: "...The first important contacts with the Maharadjas were made during the celebrations of the George V coronation in 1911, the same year when Jacques Cartier made his first trip to India. To his surprise, he noted that the Maharadjas who welcomed him to their empire were mostly interested in pocket watches, which were popular in Paris and London at that time."
