He made sundials and bracket clocks with astronomical indications as well as astronomical watches and calendar movements, all of them excellent pieces. His large observatory clock is today a highlight of the clock museum in Furtwangen. Hahn was the first watchmaker in Germany who used the cylinder movement for his pocket watches. Hahn was also involved in the manufacture of calculating machines and scales and founded the Wuerttemberg scale industry, which today enjoys a worldwide reputation. His sons continued his work and signed their watches "Hahn, Hofmechanikus Stuttgart". Apart from his sons Christoph Matthäus, Johann Georg, Christian Gottfried and Immanuel, Philipp Matthäus Hahn's brothers Georg David Polykarp and Egidius Stephanius Gottfried also worked in his workshop for a time. Of his employees especially to be mentioned are: Jacob Auch, Georg Matthäus Burger, Georg Joseph Sandra, Philipp Gottfried Schaudt, Johann Gottfried Ewald Sechting, Mauritius Steiner and Christoph Friedrich Strubel. Ø57mm, ca. 135g, 18K pink gold, engine turned, case and movement with matching number 8651, case punch I.E, dome signed Breguet, exquisite cylinder movement in manner of Breguet, repeating the hours and quarters, very fine workmanship with parachute and temperature compensation, enamel dial with secret signature(restored), filigree Breguet steel hands, in fantastic, nearly unused condition, exquisite quality. Even though the watch is signed "Breguet" and the dial bears the secret signature, the number 8651 shows that the watch does not come from the workshop of Abraham-Louis Breguet. However, the quality is certainly comparable to Breguet's work. Who the maker of this watch was, based on Breguet's work, is not known. However, at least one other example of this watch is known, also with the case punch I.E and with an identical movement, auctioned in Geneva in 2006 (source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/eXx).

Pocket watch: technically very interesting and highly refined pocket watch repeater with centre seconds, court Wwtchmaker Gregson Paris for the Chinese market, ca. 1780
Ca. Ø54mm, ca. 123g, 18K pink gold, special case quality, back with gold closing of the winding hole, gold punches, original dome, signed and numbered, No.1803, very fine cylinder movement, repeating the hours and quarters a-toc, signed enamel dial in Berthoud style, in excellent condition, in working order. The watch has another rare and interesting detail. The gold closing of the winding hole opens via a spring mechanism when the key is inserted and closes automatically. Gold pocket watches from this period with centre seconds were intended for the Chinese market and are very rare. Jean-Pierre Gregson was originally from England. In 1776 he became royal court watchmaker in Paris. His important position is also shown by the fact that he was appointed as a member of a commission to found a royal manufactory in 1786. The other members were the most famous watchmakers in France like Breguet, Berthoud and Lepaute. As one of the first watchmakers of his time, he used Lépine's bridge calibres at an early stage.

Pocket watch: rarity, important, exceptionally heavy Geneva pocket chronometer in wonderful original condition, Albert H. Potter Geneve No.128, ca. 1875
Ca. Ø55mm, ca. 189g, 18K gold, original case!, hunting case watch à-goutte, exceptionally heavy and high quality, signed, glazed movement, Potter's pivoted detent chronometer movement in finest quality, Geneva stripes, screwed gold chatons, chronometer balance with gold screws and platinum screws, completely signed and numbered, Potter's patent from 4/1875, gold wheel, signed enamel dial in very good condition, Breguet steel hands, in fantastic condition, in working order. Provenance: Dr. Crott lot 299, estimated price 33,000-50,000€ (source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/VV1). This watch is one of the best preserved Potter chronometers with original case. Most Potter chronometers still in circulation today have unsigned cases/ second cases. This watch is an excellent example of Albert H. Potter's highly sophisticated calibre with pivoted detent chronometer escapement; Potter was and is probably the most outstanding American maker of pocket chronometers. Potter spent the second half of his life in Geneva, where he found skilled craftsmen to work with him. This watch has some of the distinctive features which are so typical for his movements. It has Potter's patented safety barrel that protects the going train in the case of a broken mainspring (patent no. 168581); the barrel is relatively high, so the spring is unusually narrow for such a large watch. The pivoted detent escapement is Potter's own variation of this escapement and features a special arrangement designed to ensure the smoothest possible movement of the spring; a circular counterweight is carried on a piece at right angles to the blade close to the end of the pivoted detent. A pin at the end of the escape wheel cock holds the pivoted detent. Thus, no adjustment for the depth of locking is needed. This arrangement of the spring had been used before by James Ferguson Cole. The elegant design of the plate in this calibre allows easy assembly of the train and was patented on April 5, 1887. The winding and setting mechanism is also Potter's invention, although he did not apply for a patent for it: an intermediate setting wheel moves vertically and the locking pin attached to the mainspring barrel facilitates the easy and safe release of the spring. The glazed cuvette, typical for Potter, allows a view to the movement. There are some minor differences between Potter's early chronometers and the later pieces; the early chronometers have spotted movements, while the later ones are usually decorated with Geneva stripes and, unlike the early movements, are almost always marked with Potter's large trade mark. Kalish writes that Potter sometimes mentioned that he did not need to mark his cases because everyone recognised his movements. The early pieces have a traditional spring stud - later ones are much more elegantly designed. The present watch combines some of Potter's patents, the details of which are engraved on the bridges. The plate construction was patented on 4 January 1875 (am. patent no. 8888), the escapement (patent no. 168582), the mainspring barrel (patent no. 168581) and the balance (patent no. 168583) on 11 October 1875. These inventions were patented in England on 25 August of the same year as patent no. 2985. Albert Potter's movements are not only rare individual pieces, but also always his own constructions of the highest quality (source: Dr. Crott).

Pocket watch: heavy, technically very interesting English deck chronometer with so-called "resilient stud", Parkinson & Frodsham No. 0544, London 1822
Ca. Ø59mm, ca. 191g, silver case with London Hallmarks from 1822, case maker's mark "CL" (Charles Lupton, Clerkenwell), unusual and rare spring detent chronometer movement with so-called "resilient stud". The mechanism "resilient stud" should serve to let the hairspring "breathe" more evenly, comparable to a Breguet hairspring. Chronometer balance with 2 trapezoidal weights, diamond endstone, signed and numbered plate, signed enamel dial (fine hairline), very beautiful gold hands, in working order, very interesting collector's watch. Interesting: The matching sister watch 0541 was part of the Gerd Ahrens collection, auctioned by Dr. Crott for more than 11,000€ in 2007. This watch was one of the 6 deck chronometers used in the Arctic rescue expedition in search of Sir John Franklin. The sister watch 0543 has also an interesting history: Parkinson & Frodsham No. 0543 was privately owned by Captain Henry Foster when he was hired to undertake voyages in the South Atlantic with the survey ship "Chanticleer" in 1828. Magnetic and temperature measurements, pendulum tests and the like were part of his duties (source Dr. Crott).
