255-4179 Pendant watch/form watch: important gold cross watch set with diamonds, probably Felipe Hecht Geneve around 1880
Ca. 92 × 52 mm, approx. 66g, 18k pink gold with silver niello decoration, lavishly engraved, lid decorated with an anchor, set with rose cut diamonds, concealed opening button at the bottom of the raised cross, spring lid mechanism, enamel dial underneath, steel hands, hinged back, cross-shaped form movement underneath, bishop's crook lever, winding and time setting via the side crowns, intact and in very good condition. To the best of our knowledge, only 5 other comparable form watches in this design are known. They all have the same case shape with the typical side crowns and the same movement. They are attributed to Filipe Hecht in Geneva, as at least one of them is signed as such. Filipe Hecht was the son of the famous Jean-François Bautte. His son Juan Hecht handed the company over to Constant Girard, founder of the Girard Perregaux manufactory, in 1906. One of these watches is now in the Girard Perregaux Museum. We sold the signed example in our 246th auction for more than €11,000! Another, unsigned example was in the Sandberg collection and realised approx. 16,000 SFr.(https://www.cortrie.de/go/mZ6) in Geneva.
