Ca. Ø45mm, hand-painted porcelain with floral scenes, gold mounting, opening button set with gemstones, fire-gilt verge movement, signed Romilly a Paris, particularly beautiful enamel dial set with gemstones, gilded hands, very fine condition, in working order. Verge watches with porcelain cases are absolute rarities. Not many of these cases known to exist, as most porcelain cases have been damaged over the centuries. Most of these watches either had German cases from Meissen or Dresden, or were manufactured in France for the German market. Jean Romilly (1714–1794) was one of the most renowned manufacturers of fine verge watches from the 18th century.
