287-4176 Form watch: gold/enamel mandolin in a very rare version set with diamonds, Vienna circa 1800
Ca. 69mm long, gold, Viennese hallmark, multicoloured enamel, set with half-pearls and diamonds, verge movement signed Mallet Paris, enamel dial (small craquelling), steel hands, movement intact, servicing recommended, minimal restoration, very fine overall condition, particularly detailed and valuable version, even the gold suspension is present. This is a particularly early version of a mandolin, still featuring the chain suspension, which is no longer found on later examples. The movements of these mandolins bear partly Viennese, partly French signatures. The fantastic cases were probably manufactured in Geneva and imported to Vienna.
