The gold version of buttonhole watches, additionally set with gems, is extremely rare. An identical watch, also stamped "bté s.g.d.g H.R" No.23018, was sold at Koller Auctions in 2007. 251-4179 Pocket watch: unique gold/enamel hunting case watch with tourbillon and perpetual calendar, signed Tiffany Geneve Ca. Ø56mm, approx. 166g, 18k gold, hunting case à-goutte, sprung lid with enamelled Masonic symbols and an applied double eagle with sword, set with a large diamond, case signed Tiffany & Co. Geneva, case and with movement matching number 1886, movement also signed Tiffany & Co. Geneva, extremely unusual and previously unknown calibre, tourbillon with lever escapement and perpetual calendar with moon phase, again signed and numbered 1886 under the dial and also signed U. Oppliger, enamel dial with very rare retrograde date display and real perpetual calendar, decentral time display, tiny seconds display, intact, but service recommended(hand setting). The watch has an extremely unusual time setting, originally patented by Ulrich Oppliger La Chaux-De-Fonds No. 213.833 in 1873, but has been repaired and restored several times over the decades and the original setting mechanism has been altered. The calendar movement also shows signs of repair. Nevertheless, this movement is extremely rare and unknown to us. According to the consignor, the watch belonged to a Russian Freemason/Masonic who emigrated to the USA. The case decoration shows that this watch was probably made especially for this Freemason/Masonic. The combination of tourbillon and perpetual calendar is extremely rare! 50.000 € - 100.000 €
