This watch is one of a kind. Svend Andersen made this watch for Mr. Kurt Riedel in 1998 at the customer's request, years before he launched the famous “Grande Jour & Nuit” series in a limited edition of 30 pieces. In addition, this watch is equipped with a minute repeater, which makes it unique. As the base caliber, the maker used a top-quality movement from the Geneva-based company Golay Fils & Stahl, which was already manufacturing some of the best repeater movements for wristwatches in the 1920s. Svend Andersen was born in Denmark in 1942. After elementary school, he completed a four-year watchmaking apprenticeship. With his diploma from the Danish Watchmaking School, which at the time belonged to the Royal Danish Institute of Technology in Copenhagen, he went to Switzerland in 1963 to see how the world's best watches were made. He first worked for Gübelin Lucerne, then moved to Gübelin Geneva in 1965, and subsequently worked for Patek Philippe. Armed with a wealth of experience, Svend Andersen took the plunge into self-employment in 1979 and opened his own watch workshop. In search of like-minded people, he founded the Academie Horlogere des Createurs Independants (AHCI), the Horological Academy of Independent Creatorss, in Geneva in 1985 together with Vincent Calabrese, and served as its chairman for 17 years.
