Pocket watch: extremely heavy pink gold precision pocket watch of very rare quality, minute repeater, Louis Brandt & Frère (later Omega), No. 305414, ca. 1897-1899
Ca. In 1848 Louis Brandt, only 23 years young, opened a factory for the production of pocket watches in La Chaux-de-Fonds (canton Neuchâtel). The produced watches initially bore his own name "Louis Brandt" on the dial. After the older son Louis Paul joined the company in 1877, the company was renamed Louis Brandt & Fils. Louis Brandt died on 5 July 1879 and his two sons Louis Paul and César moved the company to Biel in the same year, where it still has its headquarters today. From 1891 it was named Louis Brandt & Frère and at about the turn of the century it took on the later world-famous name Omega. Since the watch shown here is still signed Louis Brandt & Frère and not yet Omega, the only time left for the period of its manufacture is 1897-1899.
