205-4261 Pocket watch: Probably unique, important Art Nouveau gold/enamel pocket watch with case in the style of Lucien Gautrait and Georges Fouquet, 8 complications, Le Coultre No.4040, World's Exhibition Paris 1900.
Ca. Ø58mm, ca. 225g, 18K gold, hunting case watch à-goutte, impressive quality, both sides extremely elaborately enamelled, outstanding Art Nouveau goldsmith's work quality in the style of the works of Lucien Gautrait and Georges Fouquet Paris, extremely rare enamel work, parts pierced and colourless enamelled, so-called "window enamel" plique-à-jour work. Both sides set with rose cut diamonds, case punched with the French 18K gold import punch, valid from 1893, dome marked "Exposition Universelle 1900", glazed movement, highly complicated chronometer calibre LeCoultre RMS, 20''' lines, signed, perpetual calendar, moon phase, moon age, minute repeater and chronograph, excellently preserved enamel dial, gold hands, in working order and in fantastic condition. The watch is in its original mahogany box with mother-of-pearl inlay. The case decoration suggests that this is a unique piece, made for the World's Fair in Paris in 1900. It can be assumed that this watch with a solid plain gold case was delivered by Le Coultre to a Parisian jeweller who commissioned the case decoration from one of the best enamellers in Paris and presented this work at the World's Fair in Paris! The quality is absolutely outstanding and it is extremely rare to find pocket watches with such cases.
