Pocket watch: one of the earliest watches of the Jürgensen Dynasty, L & J Kjöbenhavn No.1557, ca. 1790

Ø54mm, ca. 110g, 18K gold, case punch "FF" (Court Jeweller Fridrich Fabritius), very fine full plate movement, cylinder escapement, signed Larpent & Jürgensen No. 1557, enamel dial (fine craquelling in the rim area), golden hour hand, gilt minute hand, case back with thin dents, overall good condition, intact. Jürgen Jürgensen (1745-1811) was the father of the important watchmaker Urban Jürgensen. In 1775 he founded his first watch factory in Copenhagen. In 1780 he entered into a partnership with Isaac Larpent and traded under "Larpent & Jürgensen" in Roskilde.

Ø57mm, ca. 138g, silver high quality case, hinged to both sides, extremely rare movement with decentral dial and large seconds indication for observation purposes, large barrel, cylinder escapement, plate signed Larpent & Jürgensen No.2711, extremely beautiful enamel dial, signed, gold hands, very beautiful condition, in working order, extremely rare. Jürgensen Dynasty Jürgen Jürgensen (1745 -1811): Jürgen Jürgensen was born in Copenhagen in 1745. Between 1759 and 1765 he worked as an apprentice for Johnas Jacob Lincke. In 1768, Jürgen Jürgensen moved to Le Locle and worked with Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, the famous Swiss watchmaker who was known as the father of Swiss chronometry. He founded a watch factory in Copenhagen in 1775 and formed the brand name Larpent & Jürgensen in the 1780s in collaboration with Isaac Larpent, a well-known Danish watchmaker. In 1781, Larpent & Jürgensen began producing pocket watches. In 1784, King Fredrik VI appointed Jürgen Jürgensen as Court Watchmaker.

This watch is one of the earliest surviving chronometers from the early experimental phase of the Jürgensen Dynasty and according to our research the only pocket chronometer by Larpent & Jürgensen known to date.

Pocket watch: important Urban Jürgensen chronometer No.23, Houriet movement, Copenhagen, 1823
Ca. Ø62.5mm, ca. 191g, 18K pink gold, dome inscribed: "No.23 Urban Jürgensen Kjöbenhavn", extremely rare spring detent chronometer movement, signed Urban Jürgensen, original enamel dial (slight craquelure/small repair), steel hands, in working order, absolute rarity. The watch has been known for a long time and was part of one of the most important Jürgensen collections. It is illustrated and described in John M. R. Knudsen "The Jürgensen Dynasty", Copenhagen 2013, page 110. As also mentioned there, the movement is partially restored, but absolutely true to the original. The extremely rare movement was made from a raw movement by Houriet from the "Garde-Temps" series, key-winding, chain/fusee with "Harrisons" constant force. It is signed "UJ" and "crown" under the dial. In 2016, another Jürgensen chronometer, Urban Jürgensen No. XI, the so-called "Krusenstern Chronometer", achieved a unique auction success worldwide, rising from a starting price of 30,000CHF to an incredible 747,750CHF in Geneva.
