287-4199 Pendant watch: significant, large, extremely rare astronomical pendant watch for the Oriental market, circa 1650
Ca. 77 x 57 mm, ca. 276 g, silver, oval verge movement with gut string, typical Ottoman pillars, steel balance wheel, no hairspring, astronomical dial with lunar calendar, day and month as well as moon phase, off-centre dial mounting, single-hand, movement intact, extremely rare. The shape of the case is very typical of the Oriental market; indeed, the unusual size is only found in pendant watches intended for the Orient. The maker was probably from Switzerland or Germany. A comparable example was auctioned in Geneva and fetched over 40,000 Swiss francs (https://www.cortrie.de/go/qAv). An almost identical case can be found on another simple pendant watch without complications, also auctioned in Geneva (https://www.cortrie.de/go/AeO),
Limit: 15.000 €
Estimate: 50.000 €
Attention: The auction is over.
