292-4253 Rarity: single-hand pocket watch with double case, signed Tompion London, probably c. 1680
Ca. Ø57mm, ca. 135g, double silver case, matching maker’s marks, early verge movement driving a single hand, mainplate and dial signed ‘Tompion London’, iron hands, movement intact. This is thought to be one of Tompion’s earliest watches, predating the introduction of serial numbering and the period when he began signing with his full name. Another such watch, signed only ‘Tompion’ and later bearing a second signature with his full name, was auctioned at Bonhams in 2012 (https://www.cortrie.de/go/0Zb).
