292-4331 Pocket watch: extremely rare Courvoisier ‘Double Face’ calendar watch, patent 1871, 18K gold
Ca. Ø52.5mm, ca. 135g, extremely solid 18K gold case, glazed on both sides, precision lever movement No. 20233, enamel dials on both sides, full calendar, steel hands, in working order. These watches are very rare and, of the few that have survived, most are unsigned. Source(https://www.cortrie.de/go/ePm). Alfred Courvoisier Jonais of La Chaux-de-Fonds was granted US Patent No. 116316 on 27 June 1871 for his ‘improvements to double-sided watches’. The main advantage of Jonais’s system was that the calendar mechanism could be easily separated from the main movement – the calendar module could simply be ‘unclipped’ from the movement, allowing for easy inspection of both components and quicker access for repairs.
