292-4323 Pocket watch: a technically fascinating precision pocket watch with a repeater, Recordon/Emery, c. 1800
Ca. Ø54mm, approx. 129g, English 18K gold hallmarks, engine-turned, very early hunting case pocket watch design, dome with spring-loaded lid mechanism, very fine movement with cylinder escapement, temperature compensation and quarter-hour à-toc repeater, very well-preserved enamel dial, gold hands, in working order and in superb condition. The watch is signed ‘Recordon late Emery’, which is an extremely rare signature. Louis Recordon took over the business and stock from Josiah Emery in 1796. Emery was one of the most important English watchmakers of the 18th century. Louis Recordon was a business partner of Breguet. In terms of quality, this watch is certainly comparable to watches by Breguet!
