The watch belonged to a German paratrooper who wore it during operations at Monte Cassino in 1944. The watch has remained in the family’s possession to this day. The battles at Monte Cassino consisted of four separate Allied offensive operations aimed at breaking through the German defensive line known as the ‘Gustav Line’ between 17 January and 18 May 1944. Sold 292-4150 Wristwatch: sought-after Lemania Tg 195 military chronograph, Swedish military, 1950s Approx. Ø40mm, steel, screw-down case back with Swedish military markings, serial number 57/1813 (57 presumably the year of manufacture), hand-wound LWO 2225 movement, original black dial, original hands (luminous material on the hands only partially intact), measurable radioactivity, in working order and in very good condition. The so-called TG 195 is arguably one of the rarest military watches produced by Lemania. Not much is known about this watch. It was manufactured in the 1950s for the Swedish Air Force. What makes it special is a rather unusual zero-reset mechanism for precise time-setting. During normal operation, the central seconds hand runs continuously. If you press the upper pusher at 2 o’clock, the seconds hand automatically resets to zero and the crown pops out. However, as intended, the entire movement also stops (!) The watch only starts running again once you push the crown back in. This allows for precise time setting. Hammerprice: 4.500 €
