287-4201  Pocket watch: an absolute rarity, single-hand verge watch with 6-hour dial and calendar, Bushmann London, circa 1685

A. Ø 58.5 mm, ca. 156 g, double silver case, case and movement share the same number 955, mainplate signed John Bushman, early hairspring, silver dial, date window, outer ring displaying the months with month lengths, single-hand, original hands, movement intact. The watch is exceptionally rare and in superb condition. Only for a short period around 1685–1700 were a few of these watches produced with a 6-hour dial. The reason for this was that, with the hour hand completing a cycle in just 6 hours, the aim was to enable a more accurate reading of the time. Due to their rarity, these watches are highly sought-after collector’s items today (https://www.cortrie.de/go/AE9).
