292-4242  Pocket watch: A rarity, a ceremonial pocket watch set with emeralds, presumably for the Russian Tsarist Empire, Moulinié, Geneva, c. 1810

Ca. Ø44.5 mm, 54g, very solidly crafted 18K gold case, incredible goldsmith's work, genuine emerald setting, multicoloured gold tones, granulation technique, opening mechanism on both sides via two pins in the wavy rim, dome signed Moulinié Frères & Cie, Geneva, Breguet-type repeater movement with cylinder escapement, quarter repeater, gold dial, pink gold hands, movement intact and well preserved. The watch is an absolute rarity and is thought to have been commissioned for the Russian Tsarist Empire. Comparable pieces can be found in the Hermitage Collection, ‘The Collection of the Russian Emperors and Empresses’. The Geneva-based manufacturer Moulinié Frères is renowned for its watches set with pearls and gemstones, which today command collector’s prices. A model featuring a repeater is particularly rare. Provenance: Antiquorum Geneva 2012 (https://www.cortrie.de/go/89J).
