292-4300 Early drum/horizontal clock: rare Renaissance-style table clock, Johann Wüsthof Hall, ca. 1670 and later
Horizontal clock by Johann Wüsthof(f), active c. 1660–1680 in Hall; presumably a later round brass case with traces of gilding, case finely engraved with an ornamental band featuring foliage, fleurs-de-lis and relief lion masquerons; a folding stand ring with a built-in bell; resting on four feet, decorated with acanthus leaves and fleurs-de-lis as well as relief lion masquerons; Dial decorated with the same scenes, featuring Roman numerals, a large hour hand, a small off-centre display showing Roman quarter-hours, mainplate with traces of gilding, decorated with applied, pierced and engraved floral and foliage motifs, bearing a watchmaker’s mark and the place name ‘Johann Wüsthof Hall’, Balance cock openwork and engraved with floral and foliage motifs, one spring for the hour strike, another for the quarter-hour strike, each with a florally decorated hammer; lock-disc striking mechanism for the full hours, with the inscription ‘Die Stunden man hier merken mag’; striking mechanism for the quarter-hours with the inscription ‘Hier zeiget es Den fiertel Schlag’, verge movement driven by a chain and fusee, movement intact, height 12 cm, diameter measured from the feet 15 cm.
