292-4332 Pocket watch: significant chronometer with certificate, Geneva Watchmaking School, signed Francois LeCoultre
Ca. Ø51mm, ca. 105g, 18K gold, No. 8684, Vacheron & Constantin Geneva movement, Anker chronometer with Geneva stripes and the Geneva Seal, signed François LeCoultre, enamel dial bearing the signature of the Geneva Watchmaking School, distinctive gold hands; in working order and very well preserved, with original certification papers (Bulletin de Genève) from 1942. A school watch bearing the signature of François LeCoultre is an absolute rarity and a historically significant collector’s item from the history of Swiss watchmaking. Such pieces are generally pocket watch masterpieces produced as part of a student’s training; they were crafted by François LeCoultre at the Geneva Watchmaking School under his direct supervision as a masterpiece or final project (hence ‘school watch’) and signed by him in his capacity as a professor. François LeCoultre (born 14 December 1883; died 25 January 1965 in Geneva) was an outstanding Swiss watchmaker who achieved fame primarily as a long-serving professor at the Geneva Watchmaking School (École d’Horlogerie de Genève) and as the author of the global standard reference work on complicated movements.
