292-4178  Pocket watch: A rarity, English verge watch with rock crystal clasp, Markwick, London, c. 1690

Ca. Ø56 mm, ca. 136 g, silver, double case, identical master's mark WM, extremely rare verge movement, glazed all round, pillars in the shape of eagle heads, silver clasp with rock crystal inlay and diamond endstone, signed, No. 3685, enamelled dial, iron hands, movement intact but not in all positions; an early and extremely rare London pocket watch by a prominent London watchmaker. James, or sometimes Jacobus, Markwick was recorded from 1656 to 1698 and is regarded as an ‘eminent maker’.
