292-4180 Pocket watch: impressive English triple-case pocket watch, c. 1700, Massy London,
Ca. Ø64mm, ca. 191g, all cases in silver, outer case covered in tortoiseshell, signed verge movement by Henry Massy No. 3059, signed silver dial, gilt hands, movement intact and very well preserved. The French watchmaker Nicholas Massy (I), regarded as outstanding, came from Blois in France, where he became a master craftsman in 1623. He married in the same year and had three sons, all of whom also became famous watchmakers. His son Henry was recorded in London from 1692 onwards.
