292-4229 Pocket watch: museum-quality chatelaine with watch and original box, Fraumont Paris, c. 1800
Original box, signed, chatelaine with watch ca. 15.5 cm long, weight of the watch 24 g, weight of the chatelaine ca. 50 g, exceptionally high-quality craftsmanship in 18-carat gold in multicoloured gold tones, French 18-carat gold hallmarks, gemstone setting in silver mountings (gemstone setting incomplete), watch and chatelaine featuring a total of 4 enamel plaques with very fine painting, verge escapement, enamelled dial, Breguet hands; movement requires servicing/cleaning; a museum-quality collector’s item (box hinge in need of repair). Fraumont is synonymous with works of art such as flacons, chatelaines and jewellery of the highest French quality and was one of the most sought-after jewellers in 19th-century Paris. It later became the famous Fraumont-Meurice brand (often referred to as Froment-Meurice), a legendary 19th-century Parisian family of goldsmiths and silversmiths, whose extraordinary antique jewellery and masterpieces are highly prized today.
