292-4288 Pocket watch/shaped watch: arguably the rarest gold and enamel mandolin with a musical score depicted as a sheet of music, c. 1800
Ca. 63 mm long, ca. 20 g, 18-carat gold, original Oriental pearl setting, red engine-turned enamel, No. 2062, Sides depicting a musical score of the piece *Paul et Virginie* by Jean-François Le Sueur; the front offers a view of the balance wheel; the case opens to reveal the hidden verge movement; enamelled dial (small chip on the winding aperture); gold hands; the movement is intact and very well preserved. According to Luc Van Cauwenbergh, an expert and author on shaped clocks, only six examples with a musical score as side decoration are known to exist; one of these was offered at auction in Zurich in 2015 and sold for 14,900 Swiss francs.
