292-4219 Pocket watch/carriage watch: skeletonised verge watch with center seconds, Grantham for the Chinese market, c. 1780
Approx. Ø77mm, ca. 216g, gilt, original gem-set on both sides, glazed on both sides, view of the extremely rare skeletonised verge movement with a particularly large balance wheel and diamond endstone, enamel dial, iron hands, center seconds, in working order. Carriage clocks with skeletonised verge movements are exceptionally rare. An absolutely identical second example by this watchmaker is described and illustrated in ‘The Old Watchworld’ (https://www.cortrie.de/go/2Gx). We auctioned this identical ‘sister watch’ in our 282nd auction for ca. €11,150!
